Description

Juicy White Cheddar and Spinach Chicken Burgers are packed with flavor and protein. A perfect healthy twist on a classic grilled favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Patties:

  • 1 lb ground chicken (preferably dark meat for juiciness)
  • 1/2 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped (or frozen spinach, thawed and drained)
  • 1/4 cup shredded white cheddar cheese (plus more for topping)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional for added structure)
  • 1 egg (to bind the mixture)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

Assembling:

  • 4 burger buns (whole wheat or gluten-free if preferred)
  • Lettuce, tomato, or any favorite burger toppings
  • Optional: Mustard or aioli for extra flavor

Instructions

Make the Chicken Burger Mix

In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, chopped spinach, shredded white cheddar, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.

Mix gently with your hands or a spoon until just combined—do not overmix.

Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions.

Shape each portion into a ½-inch thick patty.

Press a slight indent in the center of each patty with your thumb (prevents puffing).

Cook the Patties

Option A: Skillet or Grill Pan

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Cook patties 5–6 minutes per side or until internal temp reaches 165°F (74°C).

In the last minute, top with extra cheddar and cover to melt.

Option B: Oven Baked

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Place patties on a greased baking sheet.

Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Assemble the Burgers

Toast buns lightly.

Spread mustard or aioli on the bottom bun.

Add patty, then top with lettuce, tomato, or preferred toppings.

Add the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes

Frozen spinach must be well drained to avoid sogginess.

If mixture feels too wet, add a tablespoon more breadcrumbs.

Can be shaped into sliders or meatballs too.
