Description
This Mexican White Cheese Dip is creamy, flavorful, and just like the restaurant-style queso blanco. Perfect for dipping chips or drizzling on tacos!
Ingredients
Scale
For the Cheese Dip:
- ½ pound white American cheese (deli-sliced for easy melting)
- ¼ cup milk (add more if you prefer a thinner consistency)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 (4 oz) can green chilies
- ¼ teaspoon cumin
- ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
- ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper (a pinch, adjust for spice preference)
Equipment:
- Small saucepan or double boiler
- Wooden spoon or whisk
- Knife for chopping (if using fresh chilies)
Instructions
Step 1: Melt the Cheese
- In a small saucepan over low heat, add the white American cheese, milk, and butter.
- Stir frequently to prevent the cheese from sticking or burning.
Step 2: Add Seasonings & Chilies
- Once the cheese starts to melt, stir in the green chilies, cumin, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper.
- Continue stirring until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Step 3: Adjust Consistency
- If the dip is too thick, add a little more milk until it reaches your desired consistency.
- If the dip is too thin, allow it to cook on low heat for an additional 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
Step 4: Serve & Enjoy
- Remove from heat and serve immediately with tortilla chips, tacos, or warm flour tortillas.
Notes
- For the best texture, use freshly sliced white American cheese from the deli counter instead of pre-shredded cheese.
- Avoid overheating, as high heat can cause the cheese to turn grainy.
- If using fresh green chilies, chop them finely before adding.
